More on Migraines with Aura

headache-woman-7Last time, we talked about the painful but slight advantage that people who experience aura before their migraine headaches have. We left you with a bit of a cliff hanger, in that we didn’t tell you exactly what those symptoms are.

Well, in this blog, we’ll explore them, and tell you more about how you can find relief from that pain in your head. Here’s a list of some of those symptoms before the attack.

Aura Symptoms

  • Decreased vision or partial blindness
  • Blind Spots or Scotomas
  • Seeing zigzags or flashes
  • Weakness
  • Hallucinations
  • Parasthesia (Tingling, tickling, burning, or agitation of the skin)

Now, the slight advantage of those who suffer from migraines with aura is they know it’s coming. They know they will need to do something about the coming pain, but they will need to act quickly. Here are some tips to prevent or reduce the effects of those debilitating headaches.

Preventing Migraines with Aura

  • Turn off the lights – Try taking a nap in a dark, quiet room

  • Temperature therapy – Ice packs have a numbing effect and heating pads relax the muscles

  •  Massage – Massaging your shoulders or neck alleviates muscle tension

Finding Lasting Relief

Time will run out quickly before the onset of that migraine headache, so you will want to act quickly to have any chance of relief. Though, it is important that you understand the relief will be temporary and will not prevent you from experiencing another migraine headache or the aura that precedes it.

For that, you will need to seek the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. They can examine the top two vertebrae in your spine, or the upper cervical spine, for any misalignments that may be the underlying cause of this neurological disorder. They will then make any needed adjustments to your upper neck vertebrae, in order to realign your spine, so as to lessen and eliminate your migraines.
