Actually, 5% of children under age 10 and 10% of preteens and teens get migraines. And, kids with migraines often grow up to be adults with migraines.

The good news is that migraines are a neurological disorder that can be helped by finding the appropriate method. This leads to the story of Jacob Holladay, a 12-year-old who had terrible migraines. At his worst, he had suffered a migraine for 5 days in a row. This led his parents to bring him to the hospital in hopes of getting relief. He had already missed a week of school and had missed two weeks previously due to these attacks. This is how devastating migraines can be for children.

Where to Seek Relief from Migraines

The best place to begin to seek relief for children with migraines is to make an appointment to visit an upper cervical chiropractor. Often, children have endured a misalignment of the upper bones of the neck. This could be due to trauma at birth – even during a natural birthing process – or from injuries as they grow up – tripping and falling, sports injuries, or any trauma to the head and neck. If a misalignment has occurred in one of the top two bones of the neck, migraines can be one result. This is due to the fact that this type of misalignment places pressure on the brainstem hindering communication between the brain and body. It can also affect the vertebral arteries and the amount of blood reaching the brain. This may be the underlying reason for migraines.

At Scenic City Clinic of Chiropractic, we use a very gentle method that does not cause harm to the patient. We do not pop or twist the spine, but rather encourage the bones to move back into place naturally. This allows the healing properties of the body to repair any damage that has been done and can restore proper blood flow. Often, a patient will see a reduction in migraines after only one or two visits. Some see them go away completely.
