Getting to the Bottom of Headaches with the Top Bones in the Neck

headache-woman9kGetting to the bottom of headaches can be a challenge, but part of the solution is to identify what type of headache you are suffering from.  There are many different headache types, and knowing which type you might have can be the first step in finding relief.

  • Migraines are often severe and are associated with other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, extreme sensitivity to light and sound, and changes in vision.

  • Tension headaches are quite common.  They are often dull in quality and can be brought on by stress or tension in the neck.

  • Cluster headaches are rare but very intense.  They usually only affect one side of the head and can also affect the eye on that side.

All of these headache types can occur on a sporadic basis, or they may be chronic – occurring 15 or more times in a month.  The mechanism by which any of these headaches happen is not always well understood, so often, many of the treatment options are aimed at symptomatic relief.  Headache experts Drs. Todd and Christi Osborne focus on getting to the root cause of various headache types.

As upper cervical chiropractors, the Osbornes look to the top two vertebrae in the neck for the potential cause.  This area of the spine is critical to nervous system function; a misalignment of the bones that protect the brainstem can be a major contributing factor to headaches, and unless it is corrected, lasting relief may be elusive.  The Osbornes work with their patients to gently realign the vertebrae that protect the brainstem, and by doing so, normal nervous system function is allowed to return.  Knowing which headache type you suffer from is important, but getting to the bottom of why they are happening is even more important.  If a specific misalignment of the C1 or C2 vertebrae is the root cause of your headaches, an upper cervical chiropractor can help provide natural, lasting relief without the need for medications.
