Fighting Fibromyalgia Fog Naturally

fatigued-lady800The symptoms of fibromyalgia (FM) aren’t limited to physical pain and discomfort.  Many people with FM regularly experience cognitive issues, such as forgetfulness, confusion, and disorientation, which are sometimes referred to as fibro fog.

Much like fibromyalgia itself, the cause of fibro fog is also a bit of a mystery.  Some have linked it to the fact that many FM sufferers have sleep disturbances that leave them in a chronic state of fatigue.  Another theory is that when people with FM are in pain, the brain lacks sufficient oxygen, which leads to the feelings of confusion and disorientation.1

Recommendations for people who experience fibro fog include1:

  • Avoiding caffeine, which can contribute to difficulty sleeping.

  • Using a planner to stay organized.

  • Establishing routines, such as keeping items in the same place each time.

  • Getting regular, low-impact exercise.

  • Maintaining a healthy diet.

A missing link in fibromyalgia treatment can also be found in upper cervical chiropractic.  Upper cervical chiropractors like Drs. Todd and Christi Osborne seek to correct the root cause of what may be causing fibromyalgia symptoms.  A misalignment of the vertebrae in the upper cervical spine has the potential to put pressure on the brainstem.  This, in turn, creates abnormal nerve signals travelling to and from the brain.  This may be the missing link in fibromyalgia as more research points to abnormal perceptions of pain sensations in patients with FM.  Fibromyalgia patients in the Chattanooga area have a great resource available to them with Drs. Osborne that can help them to achieve relief of fibro fog naturally.
