Even the Pros Can Be Brought Down By a Migraine

 January 29, 2016

By  Dr. Todd Osborne

CardaleAn estimated 36 million Americans, or 12% of the population, suffer from migraine headaches.  The financial burden of these migraines adds up to over $20 billion each year.  People who suffer from migraines, as well as their loved ones, know how debilitating an episode can be.  While an attack typically lasts for 24 hours, when you include all phases of a migraine it can end up lasting for several days or more.

Recently, football quarterback for Ohio State University, Cardale Jones experienced a migraine attack severe enough to warrant a hospital visit.  When migraines bring a combination of throbbing head pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound, they can be particularly difficult to handle.  As a high-level athlete, Jones already keeps a close eye on his stress levels, diet, hydration levels, and sleep – all potential migraine triggers.

Treating migraines can be a difficult task.  Obviously, preventing their onset would be ideal, but most treatment options are aimed at trying to stop or minimize an attack once it has already begun.  Although the exact cause of migraines is not known, there is more and more agreement that they are neurologically-based headaches.  With this knowledge, Drs. Todd and Christi Osborne are able to see great results for their migraine patients at their Chattanooga upper cervical chiropractic practice.

The Osbornes focus attention at their clinic on the top two vertebrae in the neck.  When misaligned, those two vertebrae can interrupt normal nervous system function, as well as normal blood flow between the head, neck, and body.  By searching for and correcting the underlying cause of migraines, people can experience a more permanent solution to their problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.
