Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Neck Alignment, text neck, texting Neck pain is a very common ailment and sometimes seems to come out of nowhere. There are some simple everyday activities that may trigger an episode of neck pain. Let’s discuss what some of these are and the most effective way to cope.

Common Activities that Cause Neck Pain

Here are 5 common causes of neck pain:

  • Allowing the head to rest on an arm or upright fist for a long period of time.
  • Focusing on one thing for too long or stress can cause the neck muscles to tense.
  • Sleeping in the wrong position. Some culprits include having a pillow that is too high or too flat and sleeping on your stomach with the head turned in one direction for too long.
  • Playing tennis, painting a ceiling, or taking part in any activity that involves having the arms over the head regularly while using the upper part of the body.
  • Holding the neck at an odd angle for an extended time, such as keeping the phone held to the ear with one’s shoulder or craning to look over someone’s head at a movie theater.

It is the over-extending of the muscles and the repetitive motion that causes a problem with the neck. Spasms can occur, or ligaments can be sprained or injured.

How to Care for Neck Pain Naturally

A good place to begin to find relief for neck pain is by visiting an upper cervical chiropractor. Here at Scenic City Clinic of Chiropractic, we examine the neck closely as it only takes a misalignment of ¼ of a millimeter to cause problems throughout the body. The bones most likely to misalign are the C1 and C2 vertebrae. If this happens, the brainstem may be compromised due to pressure being placed upon it. This leads to a problem with communication between the brain and body, often resulting in neck pain and a number of other health problems. We use a gentle method to help realign these bones so as to keep the neck healthy and the body functioning at its optimum.
