Parkinson’s Disease, Parkinson’s, Sports Injury, neurological disorder, Head InjuryThe Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research reported on a case study dealing with Parkinson’s disease conducted by Dr. Brown and Dr. Chung. A 67-year-old female had been experiencing symptoms that accompany Parkinson’s disease, such as:

  • Weakness
  • Tremors
  • Scoliosis
  • Stiffness

The patient was diagnosed 5 years earlier, shortly after her symptoms began. She was experiencing daily falls and other problems that held her back from doing what she needed to do during the day. She sought the care of an upper cervical chiropractor and received adjustments over a 6-month period. What were the results?

  • Her stiffness improved 30%
  • Her weakness improved 60%
  • Her tremors improved 60%
  • Her mobility improved 70%
  • She was able to perform her daily routine
  • She saw a great decrease in the number of falls she experienced

How Does Upper Cervical Chiropractic Help Parkinson’s Patients?

A link has been noted between Parkinson’s and brainstem atrophy as a possible cause of related symptoms. By using an upright MRI machine, the alignment of the C1 and C2 vertebrae can be observed. If a misalignment exists in either of these bones, they can put pressure on the brainstem causing it no longer to function properly. This means that the flow of blood and cerebrospinal fluid can be hindered leading to a number of health problems, including Parkinson’s.

We use a gentle technique with our Parkinson’s patients that allows the bones to move back into place naturally. We do not force or pop the spine. Once this is done, the body begins to heal itself and repair the damage done to the brainstem, muscles, or nerves. Once the brainstem is working at its optimum again, the symptoms of this condition may be reduced or even go away completely. Many patients report a boost in overall well-being after only a few visits.
